Introducing: The VIVA Zoom Salon

By September 2, 2020 General

We don’t know about you, but between self-isolating, a contentious political environment, and passively watching the world go by from behind our windows and screens, we’ve had enough!

By now you undoubtedly realize that VIVA won’t be doing any live performances for the near future. It’s still too risky for everyone involved. Since VIVA is part of the Society for Creative Aging, we thought we’d explore the “creative” part of our mission. There’s more than one way to skin a … zucchini (in deference to our animal-loving friends.)

Thus, the VIVA Zoom Salon is born.

Do you have a monologue or a poem you’d like to perform? Or perhaps you’d like to share some artwork, or crafts, or show off your garden. Maybe it’s a prized recipe you’d like to show us. Here’s your chance to be a Zoom star for a day.

Yes, it will be like a grown-up Show & Tell, but on Zoom. If you just want to watch, that’s fine. We will have a moderator (mailto:info@s4creativeaging.org?subject=VIVA%20Salon) to keep things both exuberant and orderly.

We’ll start with once a month, for an hour at a time. Each participant must contact the moderator for a time slot, beforehand, and gets ten minutes.

To participate, you will need a free account with Zoom and you will need the software for your laptop, desktop, tablet, or smartphone. You can start here (https://youtu.be/qsy2Ph6kSf8) with this short video, which explains a couple of simple steps to get you started. If you need more help, let us know and one of us can walk you through it.

Invitations (a Zoom link to our “Salon” room) are sent to your email address ahead of time. You click on the link, and the moderator will admit you to the Salon. It’s very simple once you get the hang of it.

We think Sunday afternoon would be a good time to get together. We’d like to start in the Fall. Please email us  if you have ideas, want to sign up, or need more info. If you just want to be in the audience, let us know as well.

We ask that politics and pandemics stay off the table, unless either of those topics directly informs your creative work. No arguing!

And don’t forget to check out the show & program archives! Maybe you’ll be inspired to add your own unique creativity, whatever form it may take, to our community.

Again, please email us if you’d like to participate (or watch).

We’ll organize the responses and keep you updated.

Let’s keep on creating!
